When we visited our clients on their new to them Sundancer 350, they mentioned that they were finding the berth a bit small. We told them about a recent client that had figured out how to modify the berth by putting an additional piece at the foot. We walked through how he did it, and our client immediately saw how easy it would be to do. As a busy executive he wasn't sure he had time to do it himself, but within two days he had the new piece designed and constructed and by the following weekend the berth was ready to go.
Here you can see the modified piece. On the Sea Ray berth it was simple to unscrew this piece of wood from the base of the berth. Than he took a larger piece of wood, traced the original one and expanded it to by 5". He then screwed the new piece back in place, added back the leather bumper and the berth looks perfect.
We had templated the berth while we were there, so all he had to do was draw the new lines from the addition, and with the template in hand we had him on a new mattress the following weekend.
Before: Original 4" mattress in 2 pieces on the newly expanded berth
After: 6" mattress with a 4" medium firm base and 2" high density foam top
We finished the look with a quilted mattress protector, Georgia Stripe percale sheets in navy with a Georgia Diamond pillow case, the Cabana quilt in navy and a starfish accent cushion.
We loved working on this boat!
